Why Chose Jiri to Lukla Trek

What’s the point of continuing the Jiri to Lukla trek when one can fly directly into Lukla? Why add another week to the already strenuous hike to Everest base camp or the Gokyo lakes if you can fly directly into Lukla?

There is nothing quite like trekking from Jiri to Lukla. The gradual transition from lush and green hills at lower altitudes to rugged terrain and snow-capped peaks higher up is wonderful.

While it is possible to fly directly into stunning mountain scenery, the middle hills of Nepal offer an equally interesting and beautiful experience. On your trek from Jiri to Lukla, you will pass friendly villages surrounded by farmland and rice terraces.

Several villages in the countryside, such as Bhandar, Kenja, Junbesi, and Kharikhola, offer an insight into rural life in Nepal. People were always on the move, milking cattle, plowing their fields, drying food in the sun, and working in the fields during the day.

It is very different from the villages above Lukla, where most lodges were a mere cluster of lodges catering to tourists. Please don’t underestimate how crowded it can get after you pass the airport. I soon missed the peace of the Jiri to Lukla trek.
